Can I drop my pet off before 9am?
We start our day caring for the guests already at Copperbeech. This means we take the dogs (which have not used their outer/inner kennel for toileting overnight) on a small walk and begin giving them their breakfast. We also check in on the cattery. If customers arrive before 9am then it delays these important first tasks.
Can I pick up my pet after 5pm?
After giving the pets their tea and settling them down for the evening, the day staff finish for the day. After their busy day the pets tend to settle in their beds or wander around their kennels as they get into a routing. We try to make sure the pets are not excited and barking as a curtesy towards our neighbours.
Are the pets left on their own overnight?
As per our licence, there is someone on site overnight in case of any emergencies. There is CCTV linked to Nicola in case of any issues and also key holders nearby.
Why do we need to supply 'LOCAL' emergency contact details?
If there is an issue that cannot be resolved at Copperbeech and the pets need to be evacuated, a local emergency contact is required (by our licence officer) to act on behalf of the pet’s owner. Also if there are any issues with the pets and the owners cannot be contacted the emergency contact will hopefully be in contact with them, or offer advice.
What happens if my pet falls ill whist I am away?
Even though we don’t like to think of our pet becoming ill whilst we are not around it can sometimes happen. If there is a serious medical problem the manager will try to contact the owner via message, phone or email. If they do not answer we try the emergency contact. All the team at Copperbeech have your pet’s best interest at heart. If the owner is unreachable or we feel that a visit to the vet is necessary then we will transport the pet to either your vet (if
it is local to Copperbeech) or to either Companion Care or Pike Moor. The vet then will do whatever is necessary to care for your pet, using us as their ‘owner’. You are more than welcome to ring/text us during this time so we can keep you updated and usually the vet corresponds directly with yourself. If the issue is not as severe we monitor and log any problems and keep the owner informed.
My cat is an indoor cat – why does it need injections?
Our licence insists that all cats are fully vaccinated
Does my dog have to have the kennel cough vaccine before coming into the kennels?
We do NOT insist that your dog has the KC vaccine but advise you check with your vet.
Are the kennels and cattery heated?
The kennels and cattery have central heating that is designed to come on when the temperature drops (hopefully in summer it is not needed!)
Can I look around the kennels and cattery?
Since the end of Covid we took the decision to stop viewings through the kennels and cattery for security reasons. You are welcome to make an appointment for a ‘meet and greet’ with a member of staff to put your mind at ease and there are photos/videos of the actual kennels/catteries for you to
see on our website and facebook page.
How do I access the kennels and cattery?
You can reach Copperbeech either by parking in the lay-by on the A6 and walk up the steps or by coming through Blackrod and down Whitehall lane onto the dirt track – park behind the house and walk to the front gate to ring the bell and wait for attention.
What do I need to bring in for my pet for during their stay?
We supply food for both cats and dogs but if they are fussy or on a specific diet then you are welcome to bring your own. It is helpful if it’s bagged up or a scoop provided so we keep to your routine. You are welcome to bring in blankets, toys (not the ones with batteries) or something from home, but we cannot guarantee their return or state they are in. Please bring your dog on a lead but take it away with you as we use our own. Correctly fitted harnesses can be left for us to use. Please make sure cat boxes are fit for purpose and leave those with us in case of emergency.
Can I have my deposit back if my plans change and the spaces are no longer required?
Deposits are non-refundable but are kept in your account for use on a future booking if we are informed more than a week prior to the start of the booking. The £40/£25 comes off the final total of your stay.
How much time do you spend with the cats in your care?
Every day the routine in the cattery is the same. One of the team members is allocated care of the cats for the morning session. Every cat has different needs. Sometimes they are much more confident and like to have interaction with us. Whilst cleaning their individual pens we play/cuddle/stroke them and feed them. We brush them if they like. Obviously some cats don’t wish this interaction and decide to just chill out in their beds and let us know to leave them alone. After
all its their holiday too! Just before lunch and when a new cat is brought in the cats are checked again to make sure they are all settled well. There is an afternoon session in the cattery where we spend time with the cats – feeding, cleaning and playing. The radio is on for them to have company until bedtime.
